Rumours have just hit the net that Jeff Gerstmann has been let go by Gamespot. Speculation about why he was fired has be focusing on his negative review of Kane and Lynch, a game which Gamespot were heavily advertising.

If this is true then it represents a new low in the gaming media and I doubt I will be able to take any review at face value from now on, especially if the site has adverts for that publisher.

Edit 2: No longer a rumour. Gabe from PA has made a comment on their forums about it.

I seriously wouldn't doubt it. Truth be told though, I never liked Gamespot's reviews. I hope it's not true.

I don't like Jeff too much as a reviewer but that is really low if true.

Media is begining to pick up the story. Doesn't look like it is a rumour anymore. 

Oh it's THIS guy. I hated his reviews, and I would honestly say that he was pretty bad at his job. That said though, no matter how bad he was, if he was fired for any of the reasons that article suggested, that's bull.

Makes me think even less of Gamespot's reviews though. I continue to be glad that I don't use that site.

This would probably explain why there was no "On the Spot" show today.

Reminds me of Ubisoft's move towards that one magazine a couple of weeks ago... Tell me if I'm wrong.

If true, this really is the lowest you can get for gaming media.. and that's pretty damn low!

 I disagreed with soem of his reviews aswell but he should never be fired for writing a bad review. If the reason for his dismissal is because of the Kayne and Lynch review then Gamespot have disgraced themsevles.

This makes me sick.

A man was fired because he tried to do his job with integrity. His job as an editor is to give an honest assessment of the game, not a score based on how much money the publisher gave CNET. This instantly invalidates every single Gamespot review.

is there a right for free speech, this should fall into that catagory...... a Review is just that an openion of an item.

Damn i guess all games from hear on out will have 9+ scores, people will be afraid to write the truth about a game..........


This best not be true i will lose alot of respect and my idea of a game review will be slanted on people having to mask Shit games with great scores.....
