Forums - Nintendo Discussion - Good news, Valve will developing a game on the wii! Hint; kiddy game

Jeez

 http://www.computerandvideogames.com/article.php?id=188138

Valve, arguably one of the best developers of games with dirty, great big guns, has a keen interest in making a game for kids.

"There's a lot of people at Valve who are parents and would love to make a game for kids," Valve's Doug Lombardi told us recently.

"We all play the Wii a lot and we think that the proper way for Valve to approach the Wii would be to make something cool designed specifically for it." he added, when quizzed on the possibility of Valve venturing away from its usual FPS scene.

"I mean, I'm not making any announcements", he continued, "but there's a lot of desire internally to do something for kids, do something on the Wii."

Valve has also taken a shine to the MMO scene: "Gabe (Valve co-founder, Gabe Newell) is a huge fan of MMO RPGs and he's always wanted to make one," Lombardi said.

"But that's a big risk to venture out on," he points out, so we wouldn't hold our breath on that one.

"I think at some point you'll see us move a little further out of our comfort zone than Portal was, but it's not going to be this year or next." Surprised? Nah, Valve's got enough to be getting on with.

Lombardi discusses Valve's ambitions for Portal 2, how Left 4 Dead aims to evolve the online multiplayer scene, and why it always takes so long to release a game starring Gordon Freeman in the full interview to be published soon.

Any game without guns and hookers is a lolcasual non-game.

You haven't put your games in your profile, yushire, but I would strongly recommend you pick up a 360 or PS3 if you don't have one already. Your Wii angst is starting to drive me crazy.

Actually this doesn't sound that bad. I have yet to play a good Valve game, maybe this Wii game turns out to be some cool stuff.

Im not angsty about the Wii and its current library of games itself, Im just angsty about some third party developers treating the Wii like Midway, Sierra and THQ. But if you all said that this will turned out to be good then I give luck o Valve bringing us games on the Wii.

He must be using some strange Australian slang. Or maybe Valve games don't get released in Australia?

Exactly, the Wii needs a few kiddie games.  After the likes of Trauma Center 2 and Fire Emblem, we need some games the reviewers can play without whining about the difficulty.

This is why Nintendo gets that kiddy stigma. A developer like Valve says "Hey I want to make a game for kids", and immediately the Nintendo lightbulb turns on. I cringe when I think of games aimed for children, but if anyone can come up with a killer, kid oriented titles I suppose Valve can. It would be nice for developers to try and broaden their horizons on the Wii past low budget niche titles, ports, and stereotypical demographic titles.

 Wow, you're on fire today.

Pwning both reviewers and microsoft.

I've always considered Valve a solid developer. They've created classics and shown they can innovate. It's unlikely they are going to make a game centered solely around the 7-10 year old demographic. What's more likely is they will make a game that has a high level of accessibility so that the 7-10 year old demographic can play it.

What is also unlikely is that they put very little effort into any title they're making. Simply because they have important franchises to maintain does not mean they say, "Hmm... let's pump out a game for the Wii, we can make a quick buck. Go find Larry and Joe and a group of day laborers and set them to work! Pronto! We have no time to waste." Granted I'll agree that this is something you could hear from some shovelware developers, but Valve actually has a reputation they'd like to uphold.

This doesn't seem that great, but I bet Valve will find a way to pull it off.
