Forums - Microsoft Discussion - Halo 3 Pre orders pass 1 million mark, more than 1 month before release...

http://www.1up.com/do/newsStory?cId=3161856

As of right now, Halo 3 has officially clinched the title of most ardently desired game in history by somehow pre-selling a ridiculous one million copies almost two months before its scheduled launch on September 25th. This fact alone doesn't make it the most pre-ordered game in history, though; that honor is still held by grandpappy Halo 2, who managed to rack up more than 1.5 million pre-orders (and net Microsoft $125 million) come launch day. Still, Halo 3 seems well on its way to surpassing its predecessor and the folks and Microsoft couldn't be happier.

EB Games / Gamestop claimed they alone already had 4 million pre-orders three months ago.

Seems plausable. I wouldn't doubt it. Halo 3 is a big title. Thee only question is how many consoles it will push. I bet you most of those pre-orders are held by people who already own the system.

Most likely, most early adopters picked up a 360 for Halo 3. Just as many early PS3 adopters picked up a PS3 for God of War 3, FFXIII and MGS4.

I guess sales will show us if that's true or not :/

well yeah but we are forgetting the massive advertising campaign they are putting in place... that alone could push the XB.... same effect than it does for movie what ever its quality.... sur exposing the customer definitely push him to buy stuff... so it could work for that sole reason....

Indeed. All we can do now is predict. Though, It would indeed be disheartening for Ps3 supporters to see all the ground they've gained from the price cut nullified by an explosion in 360 sales. Though if there was any truth to all these pre-orders, wouldn't have 360 sales already started to climb? Or will there be any copies left at launch for impulse buyers who do not yet own 360's to justify buying one? The Forum will be a unique place after Halo 3's launch.
