This game will probably never outsell the origional, but its coming closer than we would have thought. The two games combined have sold 20 million.

Having gone with a PS1 during that generation, this was the killer app that made me buy my DS the week it came out in 2004. Good times.

I think DS may last long enough for this game to reach 10 million sales. It is at 7.50m shipped through the end of March 2009, and shipped 1.38m in the year ending March 2009. Seeing that Nintendo's next handheld looks like a late 2010 proposal at the very earliest, and that DS should keep selling very well for 1-2 years after that, 10m seems like almost a lock.

Nintendo would never have bet that this game will still sell 20k/week in america 4.5 years after his release...
