Erik Aston posted 02/07/2008, 04:32
Can't blame ioi too much, though. I believe ELSPA has Carnival Games at 200K in the UK alone, and NPD has it at 1M in the US.

So it's possible NPD overestimated sales for Wal-Mart and TRU in the US, and furthermore the game didn't play very well in the rest of Europe compared to the UK.

And now the game has been adjusted down.

Chrizum posted 19/06/2008, 01:19
Indeed, this game is grossly overtracked. It probably is around 1.4 million, which is still too much.

Roy03,

Not a sequel, but they are "extending the brand" with Carnival Games: Mini-Golf.

I'd guess that's the surest bet for a million-selling golf title on Wii, though there could be several this year.

What this shows is that a decent (for its genre) game will sell to causals that are on the Wii. Developers will have to realize that there are a lot of Wii owners that want games that can't be found on the X360 or PS3. They don't even need to be AAA (which would raise the price of the game anyway), just decent and fun.

The game is fine for what it is: a budget party game. I like it, but don't think it is spectacular.

And the reason where there are no European numbers is because that data can be very hard to track down. I did my own websearch (often for "Carnival funfair") and couldn't find any solid numbers. ioi has far better resources than myself, but I imagine it is still difficult to find. A conservative estimate is that it is at least 500 to 600k WW. Inital reports said it sold well in Europe, and casual game have been doing very well there. Lately they sell better there than in than in the US. or at the very least almost as well. Look at the other party games on the Wii. The major ones all have strong numbers in Others.

If the final shipped number is ever released I expect it to be higher than many would think.
