i reckon with the excellent word of mouth this has got, its probably donw 20000 in europe.

so its done really well!. lifetime slaes of 250k would be a right result.

bring on a sequel vanillaware!
deepen the rpg side and the story, and make the combat less button mashy and moreskillful and youre onto a hit!

EU distribution is so terrible, I doubt the numbers in Others count for much anyway. Sucks to see a game killed by retailers like that.

At least the NA sales are strong.

Very hard game to find in the UK stores at the moment. In my town the two main specialist game retailers, GAME and gamestation didnt carry any copies on the release weekend. Managed to track a copy down in HMV though. Best of luck to the game. 250-300k copies sold could be considered as a moderate success here i reckon.

I don't expect grat sales in Others. I'm from Spain, and I very disappointed because seems impossible to find on sale here. A very low number of copies have been sent to retalires, so it's so difficult tu but it. I can't understand it!! Very good revievs around here but no commercials, no publicity, no distribution.
It's a shame. Maybe we can sign an internet petition to bring out more copies of Muramasa. As an example, in the major gameshops here the game is official "on sale" but it's almost an odissey to pick up one copy.
No sales, no big numbers, but if you want games like "petz", "depilate yourself" etc, with the "party" thing at the end of the title don't worry, there are a lot of copies waiting for costumers!Nonsense!!!!!!!!!

Agreed, l live in south america, and here retailers get their games from american's retailers and they told me that they have a really hard time finding some games (LKS, Cursed Mountain and others).
Bottom line, we are missing some good games, retailers don't have faith on Wii gamers (at least l got Muramasa)

@ DOLBY.

I wouldn't be too hopeful about EU numbers if i were you. There was talk not long ago about some retailers there refusing to stock the game because it's "not what the customer wants". This makes me very doubtful about it's success over here.

In response to this, i have switched to plan B, and pre-ordered the game on Play.com for £24.99, and i highly recommend other europeans looking to buy this game do so as well. I cannot wait for this amazing game to fly through the postbox and when it does i shall dig my nails into this masterpiece. Until then, Modern Warfare 2 shall keep me happy :3

The music in this game blows my mind! I got all 108 blades, all 6 endings, and I spent a little over 30 hours playing it. Maxed out Momohime to level 99, and Kisuke was at 96 I believe. Only thing I couldn't beat was the challenge area that suggested you be at level 92+. Anyone know what you get for beating it? Sorta simple game play, but a beautiful game overall. I'd give it a 9/10.

After going shopping recently, I can see why this and many other games just aren't selling. It isn't in most stores. From Best Buy to Wal-mart to Target, it isn't in any of the major retail chains.

Much like Little King's Story and other 'core' third party titles, this game probably isn't selling simply because people can't find it outside of stores like GameStop. I'm frankly surprised its sold as well as it has now.

By the time it gets released in Others; it should be over 150k sold lifetime and 100K sold in Americas. At the current pace this game is selling I don't think 300k-400k is out of the question for lifetime sales! Not bad for a niche game(2D sidescrollers are a niche) that was released for a system many thought did not have a hardcore gaming crowd!

Wario Land: Shake!!! sold almost 700k lifetime; and in my opinion that game has better animation than Murmasa and Boy and his Blob. If Murmasa or Blob sells half of that it would/should be deemed as a success IMHO. But I hope that sales hit 120K in Americas w/ a total of 250K in all areas by the end of Dec 2009 before they do a price cut!!!

Could it be due to shortages b/c ignition expected less sales? Either way I hope Others have better legs than this. The game really should have been advertised more and should have been sold at $40 instead of $50 as sidescrollers are a niche breed nowadays. It should pick up again this Nov. and Dec. for Xmas I hope!!!

I wouldn't say its selling well. Its just actually selling. Selling well would be like 25,000 copies a week with a slight increase. At this rate, it looks like it'll taper off and start only selling 1-2K a week only hitting 15-20K in America. Which is pretty okay for a 'niche' game but again, not 'well' for a game overall.

I just finished the Kisuke story in the game and it took me eight hours. I wasn't rushing and spent some time wandering around. It could easily be done in much less time. I have started Momohime's story and am totally excited to continue on. I absolutely love the game. The Japanese voice-overs, awesome visual and audio presentation, the great action/RPG blend and all of the various items that you find/buy are awesome. It is rapidly climbing my all-time favorite games list. It is probably in my all-time top five. For the first time in a long time I have found a game that I have every intention of playing through more than one time!

The biggest complaint I heard during any review was that you wander through many screens without doing anything.. I don't think that this is a totally accurate representation of the game. It retains the old random battle system used in RPGs and sometimes you just don't encounter a battle during a screen. I've walked all the way through a screen and fought nobody. Then, for some reason, decided to turn around and as soon as I stepped back into the screen I was in battle. I have also wandered through a screen looking for items, or just looking at the background from different angles, and then all of the sudden was thrown into battle after being in a screen for over a minute. Some items bring battles more frequently while others decrease them.

This game is totally awesome! Period! I'd recommend it to almost anyone.

Wow! But I doubt others will be much to look at judging by current trends. 3rd party Wii "gamey" games seem to have found footholds in America and Japan has MH3 and can look forward to Dragon Quest 10, but Others just can't seem to shake that "casual" curse

Didn't expect such an opening in US, i expected 40K max.

I know it won't happen, but i hope EU's opening is at least half as good.

Easily one of the best action games I have played in a long time. Brings back memories of the old 2D classics but in amazing glorious 2.5D stylized graphics that melt your face while you are playing.

Besides the fact that the controls are a perfect blend of challenge and reward along with the amazingly addictive large list of unlockable swords. This game just oozes quality/style/and gameplay that is instantly classic. Its hard to describe but this game hits the nail on the head perfectly.

Every wii owner who likes action games or 2.5D should buy this game without hesitation. It deserves sales in the millions!

So far I absolutely love the game. The music is awesome and I don't think I need to explain the visuals. On the surface it seems like a button mash free for all but you will quickly realize that it's much deeper than that. I love forward to spending plenty of time on this game.

I sped through Kisuke's story in 7hrs. I got about half the swords though, and only fought two "gates" where you get special equips. I also played most of the game on the muso, only putting it on the shura difficulty before boss fights. The difference in difficulty is immense btw. You'll be dieing a lot on Shura, while never on Muso. Now I'm starting Momohime's campaign. This game is definitely on track to being in my top 10 Wii games..

Based on pre-order numbers, I'd say this will sell around 50k first week on the US. That's really good!

mfogg20 posted 18/08/2009, 08:48
So if you count shipped numbers which they base their estimates on this game has likely sold 56k to retailers already. Good to see them meet their goal. And judging from the preorder data that was just posted it should have a pretty big opening in America. Probably around 35,000 - 40,000

Thank you Vanilla Ware for this masterpiece!

Just in case anyone doesn't know, Gamestop has a really nice pre-order gift for this game. It is a fold out wall scroll with detailed drawings of the main characters. It looks almost as sweet as this game!

Hope it does really well since I love the 2.5-D push lately :)

That depends on how well Ignition markets it. Same thing's true with ARC RISE FANTASIA. These two titles should eventually sell over time if they find the right audience. In Japan, it would have been a better idea to wait at least until MH3 debuts; then they would have had a better chance of attracting people.

Correction: the #25 position was in the MC charts. Famitsu has it placed considerably higher, at about #17. While this is a significant drop, at least the fact that it reached the 30K mark is reassuring.

It's indeed a fine start, but whether MURAMASA can maintain that momentum depends on the upcoming weeks. FRAGILE debuted with similar (although smaller) numbers and look at how far that went. But if Marvelous' expectations are that low, then this will indeed be considered a success.
