yes it was poorly written but still a decent game, I think Peace Walker will be more promising MGS4 contradicted some of the characters and themes from previous installments and it sold more than MGS3 only (I don't understand how MGS3 and MGS3:Sub only sold 4.5M total, should have sold 7M at least) IMO MGS4 divided the fanbase you have the people who just play the games (series) and enjoy it for what it is and then you have the people who look into the depth of the game (and the whole series) the latter felt 4 was a disappointment in many ways (and it mostly stems from the writing) Message | Report |

This is my favourite in the series as well. Easily the best cinematography and narrative. Sure, some of the more "quiet" scenes are very long and almost overwhelming, but the incredible imagery and profound, poetic writing make them very interesting and quite unique in the medium. play all MGS's, and this and mgs1 are probably the best. i think the whle idea of the amount of cut scenes, was to do with this supposedly being the last in the series. but obviously wasn't the case. Message | Report |

the storyline was poorly written in this one...a lot of unnecessary scenes too and a big "wtf" for changing Solid Snakes codename to "Old Snake" I still think 1 was best then closely followed by 3 then 2 and 4 then PO I can't wait for Peace Walker Message | Report |

@Gearbox- So by your account, Tomb Raider, Uncharted, and Jak 2 and 3 are shooters. Give me a break. The goal in Metal Gear Solid 4 is to sneak past your enemy and avoid alert. A lot of MGS players beat the game with under 100 kills. Message | Report |

Yeah, the last scene is very long (over 20 minutes), but i found it to be both incredibly thought provoking and emotional. Big Boss finally understanding the 'true' will of his mentor is one of the, if not "the" most profound and insipiring epiphany in any story i have ever seen or read. @ NeoMatrix - agreed, 5 mil is the next (and final) big stop. I'll admit that VGChartz is within +/-10% of real life (currently on the low side in this case), which has always been VGChartz goal. Statistically, VGChartz is right on the money, which is why the outcry's over under tracking are unfounded. However, when the best we can estimate off of is 4.75m for the series, that does not justify changing what we currently have. Message | Report |

I for one never claimed such numbers.It is perfectly understandable that a considerable amount of copies is fuelled into the market for future sales. But the point was that up until now , nobody from Vgchartz admitted that there is a problem with tthe numbers of this title.I am glad that now you are admitting it.To be honest , i dont care if you correct the numbers or not.All i wanted is a simple "yeah we are kinda wrong with this one" , and now i am happy. Even so , last time MGS "series" shipments was at 4.5 millon.So now they increased the shipments to 4.75 million. Which means that at least some of these extra 250k copies , must be MGS4.......... So if they increased the shipments of MGS4 , well it means that this thing must be selling better than 10k a month...unless you want us to believe that konami is shipping 500k of MGS1,2,3 or MGS:PO copies....... And on what basis is there proof that MGS4, according to the last 3 months, has sold on average approximetly 300 GAME PER DAY WORLD WIDE? Considering the game is NOT EVEN 1 YEAR OLD, WENT PLATNINUM couple months ago and is highly regarded as the best game this gen, if not ever, when did shitty games such as HAZE start to outsell it for a few weeks? @Valkyre maybe VGChartz is wrong, as VGChartz has been with lots of games/hardware. VGChartz has never claimed to be perfect, and in fact has said otherwise many times. However, VGChartz isn't pulling numbers out of their ass like every single person on this wall who says it has sold more because they want to think so. @gamer that link is actually wrong. The article was posted Feb 6th, and quoted 4.7m units through December 08. So I went to konami's website ( http://www.konami.co.jp/en/news/ ) and pulled up the news and went to the February section and they had news from the 5th. Followed this link http://www.konami.co.jp/en/ir/ir-data/meeting/2009/0205.pdf and they have the metal gear series at 4.5m through December 08. I am yet to see any press release by Konami that says they have shipped 4.5m or more units of MGS4. However, remember that this is for the series, not just MGS4 Message | Report |

To those claiming Konami's figures is same as sold to consumers. Publishers don't know how many copies are actually sold, all they know are shipped figures. For them shipped to retailer = sold. Publishers get their money from the game when they sell the game to retailers. Retailers don't report to publishers about sold copies to consumers and that information would not even be important to publisher. Message | Report |
