The touch controls worked fine. Great looking game and Itagaki continues to show why he is a beast. Never would have expected a NG like Xbox on the DS but he made it work. Its repetitive but great game.

With Itagaki gone i'm not sure but I would love a sequal to this.

With the DS doing so well and the engine made I could see it happening. Here's hoping.

The sales aren't that bad, 0.13 million isn't all that bad, sure they didn't make a crap load out of it but they probably made enough to profit easily. Plus then with Others sales it's probably 180K and shipped probably 200K. So it hasn't done too bad considering it had zero advertisment.

doesn't help that this game is always sold for well over $30, usually $35-40

Too bad about the sales. Microsoft advertised the crap out of the 360 version, tecmo should have done some marketing with this one.

In regards to what people "thought" of the game before playing it, they should at least give it a try. Probably one of the best action games on the DS by far, and it's innovative to boot.

i think people didn't see this as a real ninja gaiden game, just as a port of sorts. I'm usually instantly turned off when a game goes to PS3 and then you get the game on DS. They need to differentiate it from the other games to the customers.

I don't understand why this game sold so badly in Japan. I'm now playing the game and quite like it. Typical Asian style so you would expect the Japanese will run for this, but they rather buy Cooking Mama instead

It'll do 200k overall once the Euro region is added into the equation.

IF vgchartz ever tracks or combines the Others sales maybe it will pick.
Either way DS games dont take huge budgets but still its appearant that they put some work in this game.

There are certain qualities of the game that I liked. I just think that they should have gone all-out. Why is a majority of the music the same as in the XBOX/PS3 versions? Why are many of the level and enemy designs the same? Some of the bosses like the fire and ice dragons are essentially a color swap.

The bright spot is the combat. It works almost flawlessly with practice (even though I do tend to just scribble randomly on enemies till they die). But I think the game is too short and just not worth the money in the end. Maybe for $20.

It feels to me like they put a majority of the effort into locking down good combat and a strong graphics engine, but then they decided that was enough work and just moved assets from the console Ninja Gaiden games over. It's an alright game, but it feels like a missed opportunity in many respects which is why I am down on it.

Its called game discussion its perfectly ok to disagree lol. I still respect your opinion but I think its not often that we get games like this whether your playing a DS or PSP. Its very well done and is a good translation of what is absolutely amazing on the consoles.
I dont think people realise that its pretty hard to emulate that same experience onto a handheld.
8 hours is longer than many games coming out on next gen consoles (yes thats sad) and is a full gaming experience. ALong with the extra replay value.
If you did not like this game I guess you can be rest assured that another one will not come out unless this game can pick up on its sales. Techmo really went out of their way with this game and DS fans ignored it and probabaly lost an opportunity to have more of these games. Maybe better than this one and could have fixed some of those things you did not like.

I disagree with the positive views on NG:DS, but at least there's an audience that does appreciate this game. Just ignore me I suppose.

i wouldt call this a scribble game, just played it and finished it for around 8 hours in total. Sure the first levels are quite easy but at later parts you really have to think about your moves.

It does not just do it "alright" it successfully utilizes the touchscreen controls to a full extent.
If you say this game recycles then all of them do. I dont see this as recycling anything, its really a new perspective on it.
The game is more like 8-9 hours long and even longer with the hard mode which is crazy.
There is karma score that you can compare through Wi-Fi.

If anything most of the negatives you mention are non existant. This is a very definitive Ninja Gaiden portable experience and is very well done, therefore its lame its being ignored.

Why this is a good game:
+Fast paced action sort of done right on DS
+It looks good, strong production values and presentation
+Nice sound and music
+Made by Itagaki

Why this is not a good game:
-Recycles from previous iterations
-It's maybe 5 hours long
-Difficulty on Normal is rather pathetic leading to scribbles
-Little reason to replay

I'd say the negatives out-weigh the positives. It's not all that great. It just has a good heritage and it's made by a developer that cares. That doesn't mean it's a great product. If DS games were rentable, I would definitely rent this game over purchasing it. $35 for 5 hours =/= good value.

And I'm not sure what you're talking about with third party support on DS. The DS gets plenty of good games outside of Nintendo. It's the Wii that is usually lacking in that department.

Its really good game. To call it a Scribble Gaiden is a major oversight. Its just another example of Nintendo fans wanting better third party support and when those few chances come up they blow it. Its insane.

Maybe because this isn't a good game? I played this at a friend's house for an hour and it should just be called Scribble Gaiden. It's a waste.

Maybe it would be better on a harder difficulty when some real strategy is needed, but what I played was lame.

What a poor start in Japan, I was at least expecting 100K in Japan, that probably will never happen.

The best it will get now if lucky in Japan is 50K.
