Perhaps Dead Space and Mortal Kombat would be released in Japan if they didn't have weird laws on censorship. Google "xbox censorship japan." You'll find a lot of interesting articles.

Either way, you just cherry picked two extremely violent western games. Yet you ignore the many, many western games that have been released in Japan.

@Mr Puggsly just gonna point out here, there are only 1.6 million xbox360 owners in Japan, tis sad but they just don't like anything from the states, tis why you don't see games like dead space or mortal kombat ever get released there because even tho they are great games japan just wouldn't take the american spin on those genres.... even tho kojima etc will qq about us buying call of duty and not his games when they dont sell over here.

Mr Puggsly posted 08/05/2012, 05:24
@ oniyide - Probably more like a 1 or 2 hundred thousand more. I think that's a realistic assumption.

For example, Resident Evil 5 on the 360 sold over 120K in Japan, BECAUSE IT WASN'T A LATE PORT. It got trounced by the PS3 version, but it didn't sell a measly 12K like this late port of FFXIII. Which ultimately had an impact on the sales of the sequel as well.

I'm not living in a fantasy world, I'm just not ignoring sales trends like yourself.

The 360 is dead in Japan? You better check your sources because MS still supports it there. The 360 version of FFXIII was going to get trounced by the PS3 version regardless due to userbase. But it would have performed significantly better had it not been a late port. This had an impact on the sequel as well. Bioshock 2 did fairly better than the original, but it may have done better had the original not been a late port.

VXIII posted 07/01/2012, 12:15
No actually I'm not smart enough :S , the only reason it did poor in Japan is that the 360 is dead in Japan and all the JRPG fans already got PS3. you can't keep blaming the original version being a late a port forever. Bioshock for example was a late port on PS3 but Bioshock 2 did decently good
Message | Report
Mr Puggsly posted 06/01/2012, 03:02
The poor sales XIII-2 on the 360 in Japan are due to the original version being a late a port. You're smart enough to realize that. I hope....

This game have should remain a PS3 exclusive. MS probably paid for it, since FF is the kind of franchise people are up to buy a console to play. Just like MGS4, it sold 5.5 million, but how many people did bought a PS3 just because of it or at least the game had a huge influence in wich plataform choose?

@skeleton-fingers the reason why Star Ocean and Tales sold well for the XOBOX on Japan (despite the fact that it was way less tham a Tales game or Star Ocean would over there) was because they where XBOX360 exclusive, only after some time they where ported to PS3. Given the option the Japanese gamer will 90% of the time buy the game for the PS3, so releasing FFXIII in Japan at the same time they released the PS3 verison wouldnt have helpped the sales one bit.

Square Enix really should have made it multi-platfom for Japan early on so then the sales would be way higher. After all, games like Star Ocean: The Last Hope and Tales of Vesperia easily sold over 300,000 copies on Xbox 360 in that region.

@Chibi... Thats because Xbox is dead in Japan. Star Ocean 4 had lots of additional content in the PS3 version. The xbox 360 version of this game in Japan has no additional content, there was no reason for anyone to get this game again unlike the FF12 international which had a revamped job system (even that couldn't save the atrocity that was FF12).

Either way, you just cherry picked two extremely violent western games. Yet you ignore the many, many western games that have been released in Japan.
