As at the time of this post, I've beaten the 4th dungeon and am about to return to the Spirit Tower. This game is totally awesome. The train sections are the worst part of this game and everything else is near perfect, only the melee combat is too basic. You really only have 3 sword attacks in the entire game! The Spirit Tower sections are the best part of the game and maximize all of the potential of the DS.

Good game, and it still sold quite well. Being a sequel to PH on the same system, as well as a game right behind Skyward Sword, almost 3 million isn't too bad. Not to mention it released near the weaker end of the DS's life.

Just finished the game (brought it late) and its one of the best Zelda games I've played, the only thing I prefer from PH is the boat over the train. Sucks that it won't get to 4.5 million like PH :(, hopefully Nintendo are happy with 3 million lifetime sales.

I'd still like to point out that if you check for Spirit Tracks in that chart list, it looks like Spirit Tracks is somewhat under-tracked in Japan. Can anyone explain this?

Roar_Of_War posted 19/04/2010, 12:19
I can't say for sure, but I think this game will just barely leg itself to 3 million lifetime sales, maybe a bit more. That's my prediction, since I think its slowed down quite a bit, but its still a Zelda game which should help it hold on to decent legs for a long enough time.

Kind of a shame, but at first glance (which is usually the last glance the masses will give it) I'm sure alot of people don't want to give this game a try.

I loved this game. The ending is truly epic, and the story truly drills into your soul. The music, gameplay, graphics... all is superior to Phantom Hourglass. This, sadly, has not the sales it should have. Shame on all the "Zelda fans" that don't buy this game.

It has shipped 2.450.000 units. Nintendo gives data for sold to retailers, VGChartz' data is for sold to homes.

For a game that sells 50k/week, 500K in retailers isn't a lot.

Before yelling that VGChartz is off, you really ought to check the data.

And "1928", you're making a common mistake. All companies give shipped (sold to retailers) data, not sold. Tracking companies (such as VGChartz, NPD, GFK etc) give sold to homes data.

Getting out of a dungeon and spending some time on sidequests is exactly what you can do in ST. You may have it on a straight line, but it doesn't truly effect the gameplay of the sidequests nor the full explorationof the game. I'd rather take exploration on a linear path than a non-linear path and no exploration. At least unlocking optional tracks makes it muh less linear.

It just doesn't truly change the gameplay. It only feels like it should, but it doesn't. My favorite parts of Zelda are dungeons AND exploration, yet I can still enjoy this game more than some other Zelda titles. Why is this? Because it does have quite decent exploration, and good for a DS game.

@ killeryoshis, Roar_Of_War
Interesting... still I strongly disagree. Sure, there are secret tracks to unlock, but travelling is a passive experience. I love an overworld where behind every ledge, tree or mountain something secret is hidden. And I love being able to walk around on my own pace and absorbing the atmosphere. Take TP's Eldin Bridge at night - it's just beautiful.
in ST all you have is some wallpapers. Woods, lake, wasteland.

I suppose it depends on what's you favorite part in Zelda games. I guess you like the dungeons best? Cause I don't. I've always been happy to get out of a dungeon again and to spend some time on side quests.

I think that the overwrold is just a waste of space in Zelda games. Because its empty really. The only one that was good as Wind Waker. I love traveling by boat!
Message | Report
ElRhodeo posted 30/12/2009, 09:37
The game is NOT so good. I'm only 2/3 in, but I am so annoyed by the dreadful train travel... guys, don't you all love the sense of exploration, of a huge, detailed overworld in a Zelda game?!? Boats, trains, aeroplanes... it's all just an excuse for them to skip actually designing 80% of the overworld.
A shame. Cause the dungeons are really good, sidequests are nice... but I can't be bothered to solve them, cause of the damned train.
