Nintendo putted in a plastic wheel which maybe cost some cents to made and bundled it with the game and managed with that tactic to sell the game to 15 million. I mean Mario Kart isnt really a mainstream product, even if this game was more easier but I think a lot of people bought this game beacuse of the wheel, and with that I mean casual gamers, parents and stuff like that. This game is good and all but damn it needs to stop selling. I mean it shouldn't really have sold more than any other Mario Kart game... at least not this fast. Mario Kart 64 was a bigger jump than Mario Kart Wii from Double Dash. I mean motion controls really are not that big of a deal for kart racing games. They could have released Mario Kart 64 and it would have sold the same. They could have put a red cap on a turd and it would have sold. I'm not bashing the game because it is fun but damn. Game/Publisher/Total/US/Japan/UK 1) Mario Kart Wii / Nintendo / 8.94M / 5M / 2M / 1.94M They simply said Mario Kart has sold 8.94 in 2008 in the USA, UK and Japan. The best console iteration since the 64 version, and in some ways bests it, while in others (chiefly battlemode) it doesn't. Online is so addicting and a real pleasure. What is unbelievable is that, in hindsight, I remember reading many a person speak on how GTAiv was going to murder the sales of this game as well as the Wii. I think we're obviously looking at over 20m lifetime at this point. But the interesting thing that just occured to me is that we could be looking at one of the rare billion-dollar revenue games. And usually those are things like WoW or GH3, where there's the subscriptions or the higher price, respectively. Not a fairly standard boxed, $50, single-platform game. Obviously 20m copies times $50 would be $1b revenue. But I believe European prices are generally higher, which help should offset retailler bundles and deals. Message | Report |

Ninty has confirmed 9.53 million copies shipped as of the end of September. We had sales at 8.41 million then. So we have definitely been under tracking the title in America as numerous others have mentioned by about 100,000 to 200,000 if I had to take a guess. Yep. And at the end of it all the only game that will have sold faster will be GTA: San Andreas. And of course it got luxury of holiday season in those early weeks haha. So I mean this is amazing thus far. But yea 10 more normal selling weeks before Novemember with an average of 175k a week will add another 1.75 million putting it just another 9 million before holiday season. Then of those 9 weeks at least 6 of them with 225k a week and the rest at about 400k would put us at about 11 million by the end of the year which is simply ungodly. Message | Report |

To add This game will be the WW best seller for 08. WiiFit would have a shot to beat it, but about 800k of its sales are 07(in Japan) and it is even more supply constrained than MKWii. MKWii will sell over 10 million copies in 08. Also, one of the reasons this game has such GREAT legs is no one trades it in. Therefore there are no used copies ou there eating sales. This game is awesome! After the not-so-positive reviews (especially Gametrailers's and some of the ones that gave it 6's) I wasn't too sure about the game, so my expectations weren't that high. When I first got the game, my brother wanted to go straight to online. At first I thought it was ok and fun, mostly because I didn't know how to play XD. But now that I can actually race and know the tracks/game a lot more, I find it very fun and addicting. More than once I have found my self saying, "just one more race" for 30 minutes or more! As my first Mario Kart game, I was a little skeptical at first, it was fun, yes, but not the blast that I thought it was going to be. But then I actually starting getting good at it (Rol is right, it's not completely based on luck), and we had 6 people over playing it, and it was just a blast. Definite buy once I get enough money. I wasn't too good with the wheel though, which disappointed me, and then one of my friends who doesn't play a lot of video games (besides WarioWare and WiiSports) was totally destroying most of us regular gamers with it, so I think I'm going to go back to it, since now that I better understand the game, perhaps I'll do better with it. 9/10 from me. This game is a total blast! My wife even enjoys playing this game. We have five people in our house wanting to play with four wheels! It is fun getting several friends together to play online and playing various other people online is totally awesome as well. So far, I think it far surpasses Mario Kart Double Dash and is almost as good/fun as the original. Well worth the money to buy it. We have over 30 hours of gameplay in since we bought it and are barely home that much. This might not be the "best" game out on Wii yet but very well could be the top "must have" game out. A rocking time for anyone who plays it. After playing this, I'm now seriously anxious for Mario Tennis to hit Wii. Especially if they take it online as well!! Message | Report |

It's been a long time since I played a Mario Kart game... I couldn't stand the change to analog (not that the D-pad ever agreed with me in racing games), so switching to something as intuitive as an actual steering wheel interface was just what I needed to get back into the series. That aside, I'm having a blast with it. It's quite nifty how you can't get stuck in last place for the whole race if you keep messing up, but at the same time, you have to fight tooth-and-nail to keep first place. That's the kind of balancing that makes the experience a novel one, instead of a tedious and predictable one like most racing games end up being. Message | Report |
